The Survey of Current Business reported in January of 1995 the following information about the composition of personal consumption expenditures for 1994. Durable goods, such as furniture and automotive supplies took up about thirteen percent or an amount of 591 billion dollars worth of the total consumption. Comprising thirty percent of the consumption, at 1394 billion dollars, were items such as food, clothes, and fuel, that are categorized as nondurable goods. The largest type of consumption is by services, such as housing, health care, and transportation, which cost 2642 billion dollars, making up fifty-seven percent of the total consumption in 1994.
