Before You Begin
The review materials contained in this resource are based on foundational mathematics skills required in introductory courses such as chemistry, political science, and psychology. It is strongly recommended that these materials be reviewed early in courses to maximize your academic success. Most of the information in this book will be familiar to you, but you may not have seen it in a while and may need to review it.
How To Use This Book
To help you use this tutorial on graph skills, each unit contains:
- Explanation -- each unit begins with an explanation of the particular concept that will be covered.
- Example -- the explanation is followed by an example that will be worked out for you step-by-step.
- Practice -- practice is provided to help you determine how well you understand the skills and information presented. Try to do these without looking back at the text. After completing the practice, compare your answers to the solutions provided.
- Detailed Feedback -- this is provided in case your answer to the practice is not correct or if you want to review the solution.
- Additional Practice -- a second practice is provided for each unit if you need further review.
Don't go on with further units of the tutorial until you are confident that you understand the material you have already studied. To help you further, in the tutorial you will find:
- Glossary of terms -- The glossary is a list of important terms. You can access the glossary from the Table of Contents, or through out the tutorial you will find words that are highlighted and underlined. These are linked to the glossary. If you go to the glossary, you should use the back button to return to where you left off.
- Summary of the skills -- At the end of each section there is a summary that contains a list of the skills you should possess. The items in this list are linked to the appropriate section on the tutorial.
- Review test -- The final unit contains a review test. You should complete the review test without going back to the tutorial. After taking the test you can review the answers to see how you did!
