Learning Outcomes
May 1, 1998
Graduates of our MBA program are expected to be future leaders
of the business world, with abilities to (1) think strategically,
(2) function with an entrepreneurial spirit, (3) operate in a
global environment, and (4) utilize and manage technology to the
best advantage of business and society. Upon completion of the
program, students should be able to:
- Demonstrate a knowledge of the key functional and, if chosen,
concentration areas in management, and recognize the interdependencies
among the functional areas in organizational decision making.
- Demonstrate an ability to integrate the functional area knowledge
and lead and/or function effectively and efficiently in cross-functional
and multi-cultural teams in today's multi-disciplinary and interdependent
business environment.
- Demonstrate an ability to monitor domestic and global business
environments, identify new strategic opportunities, and relate
them to core competencies in constructing strategic plans for
existing organizations or in developing strategies for entrepreneurial
undertakings.
- Demonstrate problem solving skills, which include an ability
to employ logical processes and critical thinking to frame decision
problems in an ambiguous, ever-changing, and uncertain environment.
- Demonstrate abilities to develop decision criteria, to identify
sources of information and data, to analyze and process the information,
to develop decision rules when adequate information is not available,
and to make decisions with an appreciation of the challenges
facing implementation of the decisions.
- Demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively and persuasively,
both within and outside of the organization. Effective communications
include both oral and written skills as well as an ability to
draw on relevant information and knowledge.
- Demonstrate decision making ability that recognizes and takes
into account the ethical, global, political, social, legal and
regulatory, natural, and technological environment.
- Demonstrate a commitment to the strengths of diversity in
the workplace as well as in the global business arena.
- Develop and enhance personal characteristics that promote
respect for others, inclusiveness, ethics, flexibility, and propensity
for taking risks.
