Solutions to Practice #10

Below are two practice problems. Solve one of them using the substitution method and one using the addition/subtraction method. You can choose which problem to solve using substitution, and which to solve using addition/subtraction.

1. The value of x, D, and S at the equilibrium point, i.e., when S = D.

                                    Let       S = (1/100)x + 2 and D = (–1/100)x + 8

x = 300, and S = D = 5

2. They amount of time they both, and the distance John traveled is:

t = 2.5 hours   and   D = 100 miles

NOTE: If you got each item on this practice correct, move on to the summary. If you had any problems with this practice, you should read through the detailed solutions and review this unit.
