Practice #6 Answers
Read through the answers below. If you missed any questions,
review this section and then try the additional practice. (NOTE:
There are no detailed solutions to this practice.)
- Complete the following addition problems.
- 1.25 + .1 = 1.35
- Remember to line up the decimal points.
- Add zeros where one number does not have a digit (.1 = 0.10).
|
|
- 100.55 + 52.62 = 153.17
- Notice that when you add the digits in the tenths place (5+
6 = 11) you must carry a 1 to the ones place.
|
|
- Complete the following subtraction
problems.
- 1.25 - .1 = 1.15
- Remember to line up the decimal points.
- Here you can also add zeros.
|
|
- 115.55 - 111.62 = 3.93
- In this problem, we must borrow from the tens place so we
can subtract the tenths place.
|
 |
- Complete the following multiplication problems.
- 1.11 x 2 = 2.22
- When you are done, count out the decimal places. Here we
have only 2 places for the 1.11, which means we have only two
decimal places in our answer.
|
|
- .255 x 1.5 = .3825
- When we multiply here we must carry numbers over (5x5=25,
carry the 2).
- We have 3 decimal places for the .255 and one decimal place
for the 1.5, giving us a total of 4 decimal places in our answer.
|
|
- Complete the following division problems.
- First set up the traditional division equation.
- Shift the decimal point over the required number of places
so the divisor is a whole number.
- Perform the division as usual.

|
- When we move the decimal point over two places so that the
divisor of .25 is a whole number, the dividend still has a decimal.
- The decimal point in the answer is directly above the decimal
point in the dividend.
