Student Reflections

Here's what students are saying...

I felt that while we were all sharing we began to overcome our differences and really begin to see each other as individuals with unique stories to tell and teach all of us something.

It made me more eager to participate because I see the possibility for change and action.

I realize now how much privilege that I have and how that affects others.

It has deepened my understanding of the complexities of issues of oppression and privilege.

This opened up the door to disclose otherwise very personal issues. There has never been any other class like this where one can express personal feelings and also to share personal biographies.  These stories can actually be linked to real people and not just something that I read about.

This activity (the cultural chest) was one of the best activities that I have ever participated in. The fact that other students were so open, made me feel honored that I can be a part of it and how fortunate I was to hear other students’ stories.

The comfort level was amazing. People really opened up and trusted everyone. The fact that such personal experiences were shared with complete strangers and were respected was amazing.

It helped me accept my life, experience, family, background, race, ethnicity, gender, social economic status, a lot better and strengthened my pride.
